Browse and upload

Browse is the console’s home in an application: the folder tree on the side, the open folder’s content in the middle, the details of the selected item on the right. It opens for every member with access to the application; what you see in it is what you may view.

  • Breadcrumbs from the root to the open folder. A folder you may not view appears without a name.
  • The folder tree loads as you open it.
  • List or grid. The grid shows thumbnails of images and videos. The console remembers your choice.
  • Sort by name (folders first), creation date, last change or size.
  • Details panel: path, type, size, owner, created and changed dates, version, visibility, tags, what you may do, and the item’s permissions and share links.

Drop files or a whole folder on the page, or use the upload button. Before anything is sent, the console checks each file against the application’s allowed types and size and tells you why a file is refused, in the words the service would use.

  • Up to three files go up at a time. The uploads panel shows each one’s progress, and lets you pause, resume or cancel it.
  • Large files go up in parts; a part that fails is retried on its own.
  • A folder upload creates the folder structure first; an existing folder of the same name is reused.
  • Uploads continue while you move around the console. After a reload, the console offers to resume unfinished uploads when you pick the same files again.

After an upload the file is processed: its type is checked against the bytes, and images and videos get thumbnails and previews. The file shows as processing until that is done.

Refusals you may see: type_not_allowed, file_too_large, quota_exceeded, name_conflict and tenant_suspended.

Action Needs
New folder edit on the open folder
Rename, move (with a folder picker), copy edit (a move also needs edit on the target; a copy needs view on the source)
Delete (to the trash) delete on the item, and on everything inside a folder
Share share: see File details
Select many Moves, copies and deletes several items at once

Copying or trashing a folder with content runs in the background; the console tells you when it is done. Names are at most 255 characters and unique in a folder, ignoring case.

A folder one of your applications manages, and everything inside it, shows Managed by and the application’s name on its rows, its header and the details panel; the folder tree marks it with a lock. Inside it the console hides upload (a dropped file is refused with a message), new folder, rename, move, delete and new share links, and the move and copy pickers grey it out as a target. A folder that contains a managed folder cannot be renamed, moved or deleted either. You can still open, preview, download and copy items out. The tenant owner alone sees Release from app management on the folder that carries the mark. See Application-managed folders.
